Rethink Your Priorities

And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her (Luke 10:41-42).

Many of God’s children are preoccupied with the desire to amass material things, be trendy and fashionable, perform better in school or at work, e.t.c. However, as much as they are all okay, those very things can never make you complete in life or even make you truly satisfied.

Child of God, your greatest and utmost pursuit in life should be getting a hold of God’s Word, knowing it, and acting it. It matters that you allow the Word to build your life and mould your character. That’s the true path to authentic greatness and a prosperous life.

When Jesus visited Mary and Martha in their home (Luke 10), Martha thought to please Him by getting busy in the kitchen. Mary, on the other hand, however, thought that the Master in their home was an opportunity to be enriched from the depths of the Spirit and the Word that He carried. She attentively sat at the feet of the Master, eagerly listening to Him and receiving every word that came out of His lips.

Despite Martha complaining that Mary had left her to do the chores all by herself, Jesus commended Mary’s faith and passion for the Word. He noted that Mary gave attention to what was most important while Martha had her priorities wrong. Learn from Mary; set your priorities right by giving your greatest attention to the Word of God. That’s what counts; it’s the good part that can’t be taken away from you!

Remember the precious words of the Master in Matthew 6:33, “…seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you!”
