Love: Proof Of New Birth

We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren (1 John 3:14).

How will you know if a man is born again? Is it by being baptized, going to church, speaking in tongues or church membership? All these are good but they aren’t enough. Not even our hatred for sin, our rituals or doctrine.

No! It’s by Gods love demonstrated in and through us that people will know we’re born again; we’re Jesus’ disciples (John 13:35).

The Greek word used for “know” in the theme scripture is “eido” which means BEING AWARE. When you love the brethren, you have the awareness within you that you’ve passed from death to life.

The hatred of our brethren is a sign of our continuance under the legal sentence of death (1 John 3:14). Of course, that Christian isn’t spiritually dead but his actions give Satan an inroad into his life. He therefore stands under the condemnation of the law (1 John 3:15).

Love is a distinguishing characteristic of Jesus’ disciples; it’s not the dressing or the morality. I believe that the greatest tool for evangelism is the love that exists amongst believers and our commitment to each other.

Walking in the God-kind of love towards brethren is the only witness you can ever have, and only then will your witness be true.

The love of God, when understood, is lived!
