An Understanding Of Our Inheritance Our Inheritance
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you (1 Peter 1:3-4).
When we were born again, we became sons of God with the right of sharing in the inheritance prepared for the children. Infact, eternal life is our enjoyment and inheritance, and all the riches of God’s being are involved in His life!
We therefore have a living hope, which isn’t dependant on the energy of man but are guaranteed by God Himself and cannot therefore frustrated. As long as you’re in Christ, your inheritance can never be taken away from you.
Eternal life can’t die because God Himself can’t die and has pledged to keep it alive. That means our inhetitance is much higher than that which fell to the children of Israel in the possession of Canaan, for our Sonship is higher than the Sonship of Israel. We are the Israel of God (Galatians 6:16).
Looking at our theme share the 3 theme scripture:
1. Our Inheritance is undefiled because sin can’t make it unclean.
2. Our Inheritance is incorruptible because it’s nature is God’s nature.
3. Our inheritance is unfading because its glory can’t wither.
That means the description of our inheritance points to the Trinity with regard to
a) the Spirit’s sanctifying power to keep it undefiled (Ephesians 5:26-27),
b) the Father’s incorruptible and indestructible nature (1 Peter 1:23) and
c) the Lord Jesus as the expression of the Fathers glory (Hebrews 1:3).
Brethren, what does this mean? Our inheritance has a description of the Triune God. We have the Lord Himself for our inheritance (Psalm 16:5, Genesis 15:1). So you see that the whole of God belongs to Christ (Head and Body).
Now i understand why God told Abraham that, “…Fear not, Abram: I am your shield, and your exceeding great reward” (Genesis 15:1). David being aware of our glorious inheritance said, “The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup…” (Psalm 16:5). The portion of each child of God isn’t only what God has, but what God Himself is. Hallelujah!
